To celebrate a birthday in Genevieve's class, they do something called "The Celebration of Life" during circle time. A candle is lit to represent the moment of birth, and the class sings "The earth goes around the sun" while the birthday boy or girl holds the earth in their hands and walks once around the circle for each year of their life. Thankfully for Genevieve's fourth birthday, both Ollie and I were able to join the celebration! As she walked around the circle I got to read her story:
"Genevieve Grace Coleman-Mong was born on March 7, 2006 in Seattle, Washington, United States on the planet Earth. She had to be held and taken care of all the time, couldn't talk to tell Mom or Dad what was needed, had to wear diapers, drank lots of milk and slept most of the time. By 6 months Genevieve could roll over and clap her hands. When Genevieve was 1 year old she enjoyed reading books and going on walks. When Genevieve was 2 years old she loved going to the park and to Jumping Party. When Genevieve was 3 years old she liked to help bake in the kitchen and do arts and crafts. And now Genevieve is 4 years old. She can put her clothes on all by herself! Her favorite colors are pink and purple, her favorite food is spaghetti, favorite things to do are be outside, read books and just have fun!"
We also made a poster of pictures of Genevieve doing all the fun activities at various ages that we shared with the class. Genevieve loved showing all her friends the pictures of her when she was a baby. To top it off, we brought in chocolate cupcakes for the kids to have as a birthday treat, and I got to read Dr. Seuss's Happy Birthday to You book, to those who wanted to sit down and listen. All in all, it was a very fun way to celebrate our big girl turning 4 with her class! Happy Birthday, Genevieve!
