Amanda Visits Texas

A few weeks ago Amanda came back to Texas for a long weekend. Luckily for me, she made time in her packed weekend to visit. And even better -- Kendi (with the kiddos) came up from Waco to join us. So the three of us got to have a few hours of quality time together before Amanda had to head back to Pennsylvania. We enjoyed a yummy dinner at Rio Mambo and then caught up some more back at my house. As an added bonus, Genevieve and Tate had a ball hanging out too! It was a fun evening for all of us! I love these girls and miss seeing them on a regular basis, but so glad that we got to spend a little bit of time with each other and can't wait til the the next time!

Weekend Getaway

Two weeks ago on our little vacation, after some family time Ollie and I needed some time just to ourselves, aka no kids! We started off in New Braunfels for a few relaxing hours tubing on the Guadalupe River. It was a great way to cool off on a hot summer day before heading back to Austin to hang out with our friends, Brian and Liz. Once we got to Austin we were starving and ate a yummy dinner at Guero's. The waiter told us a cool place to hear music across the street, so we went there afterwards. And added bonus was there was ping pong! Saturday after a delicious brunch, Liz had to study so we went with Brian to Barton Springs, another popular water spot that we had never been to. It was a lot of fun, but we learned next time we'll need water shoes. We grabbed a drink at Hula Hut on the lake afterward while watching some football. The rest of the weekend was spent visiting with Brian and Liz and eating some terrific food around town. It was great to have some time just the two of us, and catch up with our friends that we don't get to see enough of.

Pappaw's Office

Seeing as how we were already downtown, after the museum we went over to Pappaw's office for a visit and then lunch. Anson was enthralled with looking out the window at the trucks and buses below. Genevieve was more distracted by the stuffed animals Pappaw had on his bookshelf and coloring with highlighters. Both kids were excited to be there though and we all enjoyed a nice lunch together.

Dallas Museum of Art

It's now Ollie's third month of residency and we decided it was time to take a little vacation to relax. We started off with some quality family time and decided to take the kids to the Dallas Museum of Art. We discovered they had a really unique children's area set up like a house where the walls and ceiling were made entirely of cardboard. Genevieve enjoyed designing her own postcards and Anson loved reading art books. They also had a little doll house which was a hit with both kids. We walked through the other areas of the museum as well and we all felt inspired by the "grown-up" art on display. It's always fun to explore new things with the kids and this is one place we'll definitely go back.
